Background
The number of
new cases of skin cancer has been rising continuously over the past
decades and it has now become the most common malignant tumour of
fair-skinned people.
Up to now, the morbidity rate and the associated burden on health have been greatly underestimated.
Objectives
- To increase awareness and knowledge of skin cancer
- in the general population
- amongst dermatologists and general practitioners
- amongst healthcare officials and politicians
- To improve the primary and secondary prevention of skin cancer
- To disseminate best possible treatment practices through continuing medical education and exchange of scientific knowledge
- To initiate and carry out information campaigns
- To support skin cancer centres in all European partner countries
- To support innovative research projects on skin cancer
Structure
Structure
The European Skin Cancer Foundation was set up in 2008. It is a
non-profit making foundation that brings science and research together
in a network of expertise with partners throughout Europe, and is
responsible for disseminating new findings in public health.
